APIBAL™ –
THE FREEZE-
CRACKED
BEE POLLEN

Bee pollen is one of nature’s great gifts. As bees fly from
flower to flower, they brush the pollen they gather to their
back legs and, with a drop of nectar and their enzymes,
they compact it into hard granules for storing. So why do we freeze-crack our bee pollen? And what does it mean?

A well-wrapped gift…

Bee pollen is one of nature’s great gifts, but, like all the best presents, the valuable stuff has been carefully wrapped up!

Honeybees collect pollen as they fly from flower to flower and, using nectar and enzymes, then compact it into granules to prevent it deteriorating as they store it. While this guards the pollen’s nutrients, it also creates a hard, protective shell on the outside of the granule.

Too well wrapped?

While many people like to consume bee pollen as granules, the hard outer shell is actually hard for the human body to digest.

So while granules may look nice, they are not the best for getting the most out of the pollen you consume…

Grind it?

So why not just mill or crush the hard granules to break them open? Well, you can … (and, in our own way, we actually do!) but there’s another challenge. The process of milling anything creates heat through friction, which can quickly damage and destroy the delicate nutrients within the pollen granule.

So just milling the pollen granule – as often happens to make tablets for example – risks destroying valuable nutrients within the granule.

And we don’t want to do that!

Freeze-cracking – the perfect solution

The special thing about freeze-cracking is that it allows us to combine the best of both worlds in Apibal™.
We unlock the goodness of the pollen from within the hard granule, whilst carefully preserving all those valuable nutrients as we mill them to a fine powder so you can digest them easily.

It’s why Apibal™ allows you to enjoy bee pollen at its best!

Our bee pollen is carefully sourced from reliable quality sources in Europe (Spain, Italy, France).

Nutrients are well protected inside the bee pollen granule’s hard shell, but are sensitive to heat degradation.

Apibal is produced in a controlled, low temperature environment to avoid possible heat degradation.

First, we carefully freeze the granules to gently crack open the hard shells.

Next, the cracked granules are then delicately milled to a fine powder at a very low temperature to avoid generating heat that can destroy precious nutrients.

The finely milled pollen is then carefully measured and filled into capsules, which are then sealed in blister-strip packs in order to maintain their freshness.
